Although the initial cost of installing a heat pump is greater than the cost of conventional fossil fuel boilers, homeowners who utilise heat pumps can avail of savings on energy (up to 30pc cheaper to run than gas and oil boilers) as well as grants offered by the SEAI to offset the additional costs.

The SEAI currently offer a grant of €3,500 towards the cost of installing a heat pump system in homes built before 2011.
